Butterfly Express Essential Oils - <a href="https://butterflyexpress.shop/?beid=burton" target="_blank">Aspire</a></h2>
My youngest was coughing all through the night and congested with a miserable head cold. This was right during soccer season, so of course, on the field, she could barely run due to not being able to breathe. She was absolutely miserable and of little help to her soccer team. I was desperate to help her find relief. During the nights I would put a stinky rag around her neck, a little trick I learned from my mom. The stinky rag includes Vicks vapor rub and rubbing alcohol poured on to it then pinned around her neck. This is great at opening up airways during the night, but who wants to walk around with a stinky rag around their neck during the daytime.<br />
<br />
Enter essential oils. I am extremely new to essentials oils but I thought I would give them a try. I had heard about Butterfly Express from a good friend so I did a little research. I wanted a quality product without additives and according to my research Butterfly Express fit the bill, they are therapeutic grade essential oils without added chemicals. One of my top reasons for choosing Butterfly Express was the quality, the second was that they are not an MLM company so no signing up required. I can order how many I want when I want.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
After a little research, I chose to purchase Aspire for my little girls cold. I was not disappointed! I bought a diffuser and put it in her room with Aspire in it. I didn't run it all night long but long enough for her to feel the effects. Each morning she had been waking up with a horrible cough, but after using the Aspire, she did not wake up coughing. Now her cough didn't go away right away, she was coughing later on in the day but not as hard as before using Aspire. I also diluted the Aspire in a carrier oil and rubbed it on her chest. The smell helped to clear out her nasal passages.<br />
<br />
During this time I also came down with a nasty cold and was extremely congested. Just holding up the Aspire to my nose and taking a deep breath helped to clear out my nasal passages. I also diffused the oil at night to help with my congestion and felt that it helped keep my passageways a little more clear.<br />
<br />
I look forward to purchasing more essential oils from Butterfly Express as I feel they are quality oils at an affordable price.<br />

<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">

<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">
<span class="AllCapsBold" style="font-weight: bold; margin: 50px 0px 5px;">APPLICATION: </span>LeAspire should be applied diluted with a carrier oil on the chest and neck for respiratory ailments. Using LeAspire, with or without herbs, as a compress or poultice can be particularly effective. This blend can also be applied to the energy points on the ears and to the bottoms of the feet. LeAspire can be applied alternately with LeBreezey. Although the oils in LeAspire are quite effective against infectious agents, LeDeliverance, which is strongly antiviral and antibacterial, is often applied simultaneously to aid in the fight against infection. LeAspire is used to open the airways and relieve the congestion in the lungs.</div>
<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">
<span class="AllCapsBold" style="font-weight: bold; margin: 50px 0px 5px;">AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: </span>LeAspire is especially effective used in a humidifier to decongest and clear respiratory passages and to relieve coughs and sore throats.</div>
<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">
<span class="AllCapsBold" style="font-weight: bold; margin: 50px 0px 5px;">PHYSICAL ASPECTS: </span>LeAspire is used to bring relief from colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, respiratory congestion, allergy symptoms, deep pneumonia, pleurisy, asthma, and flu that have settled in the lungs. LeBreezey is considered by some to be more effective for upper respiratory conditions and LeAspire for use in deeper chest complaints affecting the bronchial passages and the lungs.</div>
<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">
Both LeBreezey and LeAspire have proven effective in eliminating snoring when diffused or applied, well diluted, to the face and chest areas. LeAspire is an excellent expectorant, aiding the body in the discharge of phlegm and mucus. This blend also has antispasmodic properties which help to quiet dry, hacking coughs.</div>
<div class="BodyOil" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.02; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 4px; text-align: justify; word-spacing: 2px;">
The synergy of the single oils in LeAspire gives it the unique ability to dissolve bone spurs if applied frequently and faithfully. A bone spur creates bruising in the tissues surrounding it, especially if the person is on their feet and pressure is being applied when walking or wearing shoes. It is recommended that a carrier oil containing arnica be used when LeAspire is used for a bone spur. The arnica will reduce the bruising and the pain that the bone spur is causing while LeAspire works to remove the spur. It is recommended that treatment with LeAspire be continued for a few weeks after the pain is gone</div>

</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I had the opportunity to take my children to see the <a href="http://www.mariachidivas.com/">Mariachi Divas</a> at the local theater in town. The group was kind enough to do an afternoon show for a few elementary schools and homeschool families. We enjoyed listening to this lively, 2 time Grammy winning band and being introduced to a type of music that we haven't listened to. <br />
<br />
On the way home we talked about all the things we liked and didn't like about the show. Top of the list was dislikes, my kids were not very impressed with how loud the public school kids were. Some songs they had a hard time hearing over the noisy kids. <br />
<br />
They liked the fast paced, toe tapping music and how energetic it was. They loved hearing all the different instruments. We also talked about what a wonderful opportunity it was for us to be able to participate in this event. If my kids were still in public school they would have missed it, as their former school was not part of the schools present. <br />
<br />
We stopped at the grocery store, while in town, to save us a trip of running back in later. While in the check out stand, an elderly lady in front of us asked if school was out for the day. I replied no, we were just coming from a performance and are homeschoolers. I could see her husband start to bristle and just shake his head. Finally, it was just to much for him. He turned and said "I guess you don't want your kids to learn anything." I was stunned and a little offended. I asked him "What makes you think that I am not smart enough to teach my own children?" His response, "They won't know what the public schools are teaching and you will just teach them what you want." My response, "Yes I will teach them what I want. You can quiz them down and see that they are not dumb. I know better how to teach them than any teacher out there."<br />
<br />
That was the end of the conversation, but I was seething and coming up with all kinds of comebacks such as:<br />
<br />
No my kids won't know the same as public school kids, my standards are higher, so they will know more.<br />
<br />
What makes you think my doctorate isn't enough to teach my kids (Don't have one of those, but I do have a college degree)<br />
<br />
Do you know what they are teaching in public schools these days? I do. My kids have been there and I have put hours into researching <a href="http://www.utahnsagainstcommoncore.com/">Common Core</a>. <br />
<br />
No my kids won't know the same as public school kids, but they will know the United States of America is a Republic not a Democracy, they will know the founding fathers believed in God, they will know what the Constitution is, they will have a deep appreciation for America and it's history. <br />
<br />
My kids will learn how to learn without being told what to learn. They will learn to be free thinkers and they will learn how to find truth and sort it out from opinion. <br />
<br />
I'm okay with my kids not learning the same thing as public school kids. We've done that been there. My kids learned wealth distribution, that only white people are mean to African Americans, that the only way for peace in America is to take away the 2nd Amendment.... They also learned how to make sure their cut out pumpkin looked exactly like the rest of the class. That's exactly why I'm okay that my kids don't learn the same as public school kids.<br />
<br />
I sat in on my kids classes and saw the time wasted due to the kid that was more interested in throwing his eraser across the room. My child was told he couldn't go ahead with the assignment until the kid throwing erasers was ready. At home he doesn't have to wait on any one, no kids throwing erasers here to hold him back. <br />
<br />
Even though this experience kind of put a damper on our fun trip, I'm glad I had the opportunity to stand up for something I believe in deeply and my kids got the privilege of witnessing that. Homeschooling may not be for everyone, but it works for my family and I believe in making my children the best they can be and giving them opportunities to learn and grow. <br />
<br />
I don't have a problem with public school, it just didn't work for my kids. I wanted to give them the opportunity to learn without having to sort opinion from actual facts. <br />
<br />
I may not have a teaching degree but I know how to find information and I can learn right a long with my children. I am passionate about teaching them and about helping them to gain a love of learning.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear your comebacks and what you do in the face of critcism.<br />
<br />

<h2>
<b>A Mother's Touch</b></h2>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">The role of a mother has been something that has weighed heavily on my mind for the last two years. I've taken my responsibility seriously but more so in the last few years as I have taken on the additional role of educating my children as well. I worry over what my children are learning and if they are learning the right things. It has taken me a little while to realize it's okay if my set of guidelines look different from the public school guidelines. After all I don't have the same values as the crew that put together Common Core standards. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">I have had a great shifting in my thoughts on motherhood in the last few years. Three years ago I was perfectly fine with sending my little ones to the end of the block to school. I hurried them out the door with their sack lunches and back packs and then my day begin. There was grocery shopping to do, floors to mop, laundry to fold, bathrooms to clean, beds to tidy and Facebook to check. Since pulling my kids out of public school I have had to greatly change how my day looks. Shopping now consists of 4 kids tagging along with me, so of course it takes longer to get the job done. My laundry stacks up but my kids are learning how to pitch in and fold. My dishes don't always get done right after breakfast like I would like them to, my floors aren't mopped as often. As for Facebook it is history, it sucked to much time out of my day. Upon giving up my time during the day, I have given my children something precious, my time and full attention. In return I am learning so many amazing things right along with my children.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br />I continually have to remind myself, it is okay if the kids make a mess while they are learning. In the long run will my clean house (and I really like a clean house) be what people know me by or what my kids remember the most about me? Or will they remember doing science experiments like <a href="http://amyskitchen4.blogspot.com/2014/11/science-experiment-for-kids-elephants.html">Elephants Toothpaste</a>, or blowing soap up in the microwave? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br />So what does all this have to do with a mother's touch? That brings me to a quote by Brigham Young:<br /><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 15px; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></span><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 15px; text-align: justify;">"The duty of the mother is to watch over her children, and give them their early education, for impressions received in infancy are lasting. You know, yourselves, by experience, that the impressions you have received in the dawn of your mortal existence, bear, to this day, with the greatest weight upon your mind. It is the experience of people generally, that what they imbibe from their mothers in infancy, is the most lasting upon the mind through life... Children have all confidence in their mothers; and if mothers would take proper pains, they can instill into the hearts of their children what they please. You will, no doubt, recollect reading, in the Book of Mormon, of two thousand young men, who were brought up to believe that, if they put their whole trust in God, and served Him, no power would overcome them. You also recollect reading of them going out to fight, and so bold were they, and so mighty their faith, that it was impossible for their enemies to slay them. This power and faith they obtained through the teachings of their mothers. </span><i style="background-color: white; line-height: 15px; text-align: justify;">(Journal of Discourses 1:66-70)</i></span></blockquote>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 15px; text-align: justify;">For me that quote reminds my of my duties as a mother, to raise my children up in righteousness and prepare them for going out into the world. Mothers play a great role in the lives of their little ones. </span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; line-height: 15px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; line-height: 15px;">In the Book of Mormon, one of my favorite stories is that of the 2000 stripling warriors. These young men volunteered to go into war to defend their freedoms and their families. Helaman lead them with great courage. </span></span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 15px;">These young men became an army to fear because they were so successful in war. They could have boasted of theirselves but they didn't.</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 15px;"> When they returned from war not one single soul from their 2000 warriors had perished at the hand of their enemy. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Mothers, today we have a great responsibility to teach our children. Not all of us will be sending our sons and daughters off to fight for our freedoms and our families, but there is a war of good over evil waging against our precious children daily. Are we teaching our children how to be "firm and undaunted". Do they know to turn the TV or computer off when pornography, violence or foul language comes on? I ask myself daily, what am I doing to strengthen my children so that as they face their own personal battles they are "firm and undaunted". Are we teaching them to be firmly planted in the gospel of Jesus Christ? What kind of touch are we leaving on the impressionable minds of our little ones? As Brigham Young said, what mothers teach their children will have a lasting effect upon them and will shape their ideas of the world around them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">My house my not be as tidy as I like but I am working on how I can touch the lives of my children for the better. I will consider myself successful if I can teach them to be firmly planted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I will be successful if I can send them into the world with the confidence that they will be "firm and undaunted" in the challenges that they will face. Yes, my day has changed greatly and I no longer have enough time to accomplish everything, but I am doing the most important thing possible, I am shaping young people to become great members of society and to love their Heavenly Father. Hopefully my mothers touch will be one that will give them direction and guidance. As I have taken on the role of spiritually and intellectually mentoring my children, I pray that I will be guided by my Heavenly Father and be able to follow His will. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
My kids love chicken nuggets, but I hate store bought, pressed together mystery meat nuggets. So I decided to try my hand at making homemade nuggets. I searched the web for the perfect recipe, until I found the right one at <a href="http://laurassweetspot.com/">Laura's Sweet Spot</a>. These are very time consuming, but delicious. <br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
Ingredients</h2>
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lbs)<br />
2 cups water<br />
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon salt<br />
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce<br />
1 cup all purpose flour<br />
1 cup panko bread crumbs, crushed<br />
2 teaspoons onion powder<br />
3/4 teaspoon pepper<br />
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder<br />
1/2 teaspoon baking soda<br />
3 large egg whites<br />
4 cups peanut, coconut or vegetable oil<br />
<br />
<h2>
Instructions</h2>
<div>
1. Cut and Brine Chicken: Cut chicken into 1/2 inch thick 1 inch wide pieces. In a large bowl, combine 1 tablespoon salt and Worcestershire sauce, stir until the salt dissolves. Add the chicken and refrigerate covered for 30 minutes.<br />
<br />
Remove the chicken from the brine and pat chicken dry with a paper towel. In a shallow dish, combine flour, bread crumbs, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder, and baking soda. In a separate dish, beat the egg whites until they are foamy. Coat the chicken pieces with egg whites and then dredge in the crumb mixtures, press the crumbs onto the chicken to help them adhere. Place on a dish or cookie sheet and let set for 10 minutes to allow the bread crumbs to soak up some moisture from the chicken. <br />
<br />
Now it's time to fry: You can use several different methods. If you have a fry daddy, use that.<br />
No fry daddy, try the oven. Adjust your oven rack to the middle position, turn oven to 200 degrees. Heat oil in a large dutch oven. I used coconut oil. It kind of gave the chicken a coconut flavor but it turned out great. Before adding the chicken to the hot oil, coat second time with the flour mixture. Fry half of the chicken until deep golden brown, about 3 minutes turning halfway through cooking. Drain the chicken on a wire rack set inside a baking sheet to catch the oil. I actually preferred to use my electric skillet. It was easier than checking the oven. A wok would work as well, you just want something deep enough that oil isn't going to be splattering every where.<br />
<br />
My kids ate these up as quick as I pulled them out of the oil. They loved them. The process is a little time consuming but making a bunch an freezing them would work great and save time later when the kids want to pull something out of the freezer and pop in the oven. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the Christmas Season and all the decorations that come out during the month of December. Not only do trees and lights come out, but kindness and caring in people seems to be more abundant. I am more generous with my neighbors and look forward to sharing the Christmas spirit with them. My family started a new tradition a few years ago that we all look forward to sharing with neighbors. I will share that tradition in a future post as I think it is so fun and so do my kiddos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today I have something fun to share. Cookies in a jar. This is a fun way to give your neighbors a gift that they don't have to eat right away. I don't know about you, but I get a little tried of all the junk food, so having a gift that we can enjoy later is so nice. I can put it on my shelf for another day when I need a quick treat. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. I love getting together with my brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents. parents and cousins. Unfortunately because of the traveling distance that doesn't happen often enough. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanksgiving is a big event for my family. My mom has 10 brothers and sisters so as you can imagine when we get together with all of them or even a portion of them, it is a full house. As none of my aunts and uncles have a house big enough to host that many people, for years we have rented the senior citizens center or met at the local church to enjoy our feast. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of my aunts and uncle purchased a store a few years back, <a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Cscript%20type=%22text/javascript%22%20src=%22http://widget.foodieblogroll.com?BlogID=10932&StyleID=1%22%3E%3C/script%3E">the Soup Town Cafe</a>, so now that is where we all congregate for Thanksgiving. There is plenty of space to fit us all, barely. We are a big crowd. Family and neighbors all join in for the feast with each bringing a dish to share. Some dishes are great, some not so great like the pickled asparagus last year. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once we have all had our fill, my aunt turns on the open sign for business. As Soup Town Cafe is between Zion and Bryce Canyons, there are still plenty of tourists traveling through this time of year. Most are foreign and have no idea why all the shops are closed. We have had foreigners from Norway, Sweden, and other countries stop in and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Most are surprised that they are getting a meal for free. It is fun to see how these people react and to be able to serve them when there is no where else opened. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On to the recipes, these are all that I have posted in the past but they are great family favorites. Hopefully you find a few you want to try this Thanksgiving. </div>

I recently ran across a fun website called <a href="http://classicalcomposersmonthly.com/">Classical Composers Monthly</a>. This is a website that consists of fine art pages to help you in your homeschool day. I love the above Thanksgiving link because it is filled with links to videos, crafts and Thanksgiving history. My kids especially love to watch the videos. This is such a handy site for a busy homeschooling mom. It is nice to have so many great resources in one place so I don't have to spend a lot of time looking. <br />

I thought I would post something a little bit different today. I have a very talented mother, she can do a little bit of everything, and if she can't she'll figure it out. She paints, draws, sews quilts, does home repairs such as putting up sheet rock and laying tile, and she is an excellent writer. As you can see, I have an amazing mother that has figured out how to use the talents she has been given. One day I called her and she told me her head was sore. I asked why and she said because she was putting sheet rock up on her storage room ceiling and she had been using her head to hold it up while she screwed it onto the ceiling. I love that my mom is willing to figure anything out and no project is to big.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>I'm going to share with you a piece that she posted on her blog: <a href="http://conniestories.blogspot.com/2012/07/finding-joy-in-journey.html">Paint Me a Picture</a>. I hope you enjoy it. Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think. <br />

<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">How do you define Joy? Is joy more than happiness or pleasure?</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sometimes we look around us at our neighbors and friends and think that their lives are so much better than ours. Maybe they have a beautiful home, wonderful children and a big boat.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">We live in a pleasure seeking culture. We want to always be happy, entertained, and pampered. It is easy to get caught up in the wants and passions of the day. It is so easy to forget where we came from, who we are and why we are here.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">In the New Testament (Galatians 5:22), joy is defined as one of the fruits of the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith...” </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Joy comes through overcoming our trials and things that we suffer. It comes with gaining maturity of faith. It comes with knowing that God is our father and that he has a plan for us. It is the sweet knowing that we are loved and the sureness that there is hope of a fullness of joy when we again see His face.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">In Nehemiah 8:10 “the joy of the Lord,” is equated with “strength.” In Romans 14:17 Paul tells the Romans that joy is one of the core values, along with righteousness and peace “in the Holy Ghost”. As we gain strength over our challenges we begin to know joy. Joy is the fruit of the Spirit as we gain a closer relationship with our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">When we are born into this life we step through a veil of forgetfulness. Joy comes as our Spirits remember our</span></span><span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Father </span></span><span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">and our</span></span><span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;"> heavenly home. Joy is that deep knowing within our souls that we are children of a Father in Heaven and that we are loved.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Joy is like a flowing river it comes a little at a time and in waves. It comes in quiet moments and in happy and boisterous bursts, like an unexpected wonderful gift. It is our compass directing us on the path as we seek to be reunited with our Heavenly home.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">I wonder if it was this joy that Lehi was trying to teach Laman when he showed him the river that emptied into the Red Sea. In 1Nephi 2:9 Lehi spake to Laman saying: O that thou mightest be like unto this river, continually running into the fountain of all righteousness!</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is interesting to compare Lehi's perspective in life with that of his son. Lehi walked away from the home he had always known, his wealth, his position and standing in his community, and the culture of his people. Lehi had an eternal perspective whereas Laman was focused on temporal things. They both made the same journey in the wilderness but Laman was bitter, he complained and was always in contention with those around him.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Lehi knew Heavenly Father's plan for us and he wanted to share it with the son whom he loved. Lehi knew that it is through faithfully living gospel principles that we find joy in this life and in the next.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">It is a natural inclination to share joy with others, especially the ones we love. John taught that the greatest joy a parent can have on this earth is to see that their children walk in truth. We find joy in our children and we want them to be happy. In 2 Nephi 2:25 Lehi said, “Men are that they might have joy.” Our joy is increased when it is shared with the ones that we love.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Because of a forgetfulness of our Heavenly home, the trials we face while on this mortal journey can become overwhelming at times. In the ups and downs and struggles of our daily lives, we sometimes find ourselves in the depths of sorrow. Our Savior Jesus Christ gave his life for us so that we could have the beautiful gift of life everlasting which is in the direct opposition of sorrow. Overcoming death and sorrow is part of everlasting joy. He promised to wipe away our tears.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Joy is faith that our Heavenly Father loves us and has a plan for our return to Him. Joy is knowing that our Savior gave His life that we may live and be reunited with those we love. Joy is an underlying peace that is ours when we remember who we are and why we are here. Joy comes when we follow the path set for us by our Redeemer and Savior Jesus Christ. Joy helps us to have hope when we stumble and struggle in this life. We gain joy when we are able to see the big picture. When we know that we are in the hands of our Heavenly Father. That through His plan He provided a Savior to give his life that we might live and through His sacrifice we could overcome our sins and again live with Him.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">So what can you do to find joy in your life?</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">This journey begins with a desire to believe in a Heavenly Father who loves us. Hope is born of a belief that this life has a purpose and that He is there and knows of our struggles.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">This journey requires humility, the humbleness to know that there is something bigger than ourselves. </span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">This journey requires willingness to listen to the spiritual whisperings of the Holy Ghost. A willingness to listen and to act. As we act upon these prompting of the Spirit we find that the Spirit is incompatible with Sin. Sins are the stumbling blocks that we face in this mortal existence. We may be bound to addictions of the body and mind and to errors of thinking.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">As we open our hearts to belief in a power greater than ourselves and to the reality of a Father in Heaven, the Spirit of the Holy Ghost will begin to make a powerful change in us. As our heart change, the focus of our lives change. We begin to feel sorrow for choices that take us away from the peace and joy we feel when we are in tune with the Spirit and with our Father in Heaven.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is truly what repentance is. It is the ability to recognize the actions and errors in our thinking that bind us down. Things that make us stumble and hold us back. It is coming to the place in our lives where we have a desire to change. It is when our heart changes and we work to no longer hold onto the things that separate us from our Father in Heaven. It is when we recognize the mistakes that we have made and we make every effort to put things right with others, ourselves and our Heavenly Father.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Joy comes as we build a relationship with our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ. Joy comes with gratitude as we begin to notice and appreciate their influence in our daily lives.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Having joy in our lives doesn't mean that we will not face sorrows or challenges. Everyone has trials and challenges to overcome in this life. For some the challenges seem overwhelming. In His love for us our Heavenly Father has made it possible for us to have a daily connection with him through prayer.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Our Father in Heaven loves us and has set a plan in motion that we might have joy. He has left sign posts along the way to guide us. We find messages just for us in the passages of the scriptures and and in the words of Prophets past and present. As we tune our lives to the whisperings of the Spirit and the words of inspired leaders we are better able to overcome our challenges and to find joy in our lives. When we live the principles of the Gospel our joy increases.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">There are people who seem to shine with the light of joy. These are the same people who are living their lives in the service of others. They are quick to offer a smile to a stranger and a hand to those in need. They are the ones who quietly pick up the chairs after a meeting or cheerfully take a meal to a new mother or to a family that has lost a loved one. You find these people at the temple week after week doing vicarious work for those who could not do it for themselves. They know who they are. They know where they came from and they know where they are going. They see the big picture.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Joy seems to be inseparable from gratitude. With joy comes a profound sense of reverence and gratitude to a Father in Heaven who loves us and to the Savior Jesus Christ who gave His life that we may live.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">The Gospel plan was designed that we might have joy in this life and a fullness of joy when we return to our Heavenly home. What joy will be ours when we again see the face of our Father in Heaven and those who have gone on before us.</span></span></div>
<div align="LEFT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">
<br />
<span style="font-family: Duchess, cursive;"><span style="font-size: small;">Our challenge in this life is to find joy in the journey while we are here. To learn the things that we came here to learn. To love one another and endure to the end.</span></span></div>
<div align="RIGHT" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.7900009155273px;">

My in laws have two apple trees that were loaded with apples this year. They had so many apples that they had a bunch pressed into apple cider. They had enough apples to make 27 gallons of cider and boy was it good. Now 27 gallons of apple cider take up a lot of fridge space, so my family was kind enough to take a few gallons home. My kids had it gone in no time at all.<br />
<br />
My husband enjoyed the apple cider so much that he decided he wanted to take a bunch of apples to be pressed into juice as well. So we loaded up the kids and headed out to pick apples from my husbands uncle's apple tree. The tree was loaded and the apples were going to waste, so what better way to save them than to make them into apple cider. Really we were doing those tasty apples a favor by picking them off the tree instead of them falling on the ground and rotting.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a> Five big boxes later, (and I mean big), we figured we had enough apples to get several gallons of juice out of them, so off we headed to the business that had the apple press. We were so disappointed to find the shop closed, so we called the owner only to find out that they had shut their press down for the winter. Aghhh, guess that is what happens when you don't call before picking the apples.<br />

Now I have 4 boxes of apples to process. Luckily I was able to pawn one box off onto my neighbor. The majority of them will become apple sauce, as that is a staple around my home. We also love dried apples, so I will dry a bunch as well. Next year, I'll think twice about picking so many apples.<br />
<br />
Apple Sauce and dried apples are both super easy to make. Today I'm going to share with you how to make dried apples.<br />

How to dry apples</h3>

<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
<div>
Apples </div>
<div>
Lemon Juice, fresh or bottled</div>
<div>
Water</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
<div>
Slice the apples either using an <a href="http://www.amazon.com/VICTORIO-VKP1011-Apple-Potato-Peeler/dp/B001DLP4EM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1415764318&sr=8-5&keywords=apple+peeler">apple peeler and corer like this one</a> or <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Calphalon-Easy-Grip-Apple-Slicer/dp/B000SOAT0Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415764370&sr=8-2&keywords=apple+corer">an apple corer like this one</a>, or use a knife to cut the apple into 1/4" slices. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUhKqhNSbNwPshBF0SCmkGcSGMpezGkOrj2VPyQjgvti4H5JyV1H-opsqMlQogRwE5fajZKI-w8lrFh4VISIGV6Wsh_ViMaf1wwJdPTUI6C1SQ-th5P3O-ppTwzIsVkTb65Yn_ZNIDSY/s1600/photo+1+(8).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtUhKqhNSbNwPshBF0SCmkGcSGMpezGkOrj2VPyQjgvti4H5JyV1H-opsqMlQogRwE5fajZKI-w8lrFh4VISIGV6Wsh_ViMaf1wwJdPTUI6C1SQ-th5P3O-ppTwzIsVkTb65Yn_ZNIDSY/s320/photo+1+(8).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can leave the skins on, I prefer to peel them. I used the apple corer as pictured above, and then peeled the skins off with a pairing knife.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a medium sized bowl combine equal parts of lemon and water. The amount will depend on how many apples you are drying. After the apples are peeled, soak them in the lemon water. This will help prevent them from turning brown. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Remove apples from lemon water and place single layer onto your dehydrator drying racks or if you don't have a dehydrator, place on a cookie sheet. </div>
<div>
For oven drying, preheat oven to 170, place cookie sheet in oven and let dry until they reach the desired dryness. Flip the apples about half way. Plan on this taking 4-5 hours. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For dehydrator, after filling up all the racks, turn on the dryer. My dryer takes 6 hours. Halfway through, rotate the trays. Be sure not to over dry, as they will be hard. Apples should be a little bit rubbery. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Remove from cookie sheet or drying trays and store in ziplock bags. </div>

Not only does fall make me think of <a href="http://amyskitchen4.blogspot.com/2011/11/creamy-white-chilli.html">soup</a>, but also anything <a href="http://amyskitchen4.blogspot.com/2011/11/pumpkin-rolls.html">pumpkin</a>, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin rolls, well you get the point. I love the flavor of pumpkin and pumpkin just seems to be a treat that I enjoy in the fall. I made the following recipe, or a similar recipe several years ago but then I lost the recipe so I just threw together what I thought was in this wonderfully delicious treat. I think the results are great. The original recipe was made in a premade graham cracker crust, now if you have ever tried to share a small pie with a whole group of people, you know that it doesn't go far. So I opted to make this recipe in a 9 x 13 dish so I could share its goodness with more friends.<br />

<h3>
Instructions:</h3>
<div>
Crush the graham crackers until they are really fine. I prefer to smash them with a cup. Adding them into a sealed zip lock back and crushing them with a rolling pin works great. Or if you are in the mood to clean another dish, throw them in your food processor and blend away. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once crushed add in the sugar, melted butter and cinnamon and mix well. With the back of a spoon press the crumbs to the bottom of 9x13 baking dish. Make sure crust is even. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes. Be sure and keep an eye on the crust. You just want to toast it a little. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pull out of the oven and while it is cooling start on the middle layer.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Ingredients for cream cheese layer:</h3>
<div>
1 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened</div>
<div>
1 8 oz package of cool whip</div>
<div>
1 cup powder sugar</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a medium bowl start whipping your cream cheese. If it is not completely softened, you will have lumps, gradually mix in the powder sugar. Once powder sugar and cream cheese are incorporated add the cool whip. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Spread cream cheese mixture onto your completely cooled graham cracker crust. Set that aside and mix up your pumpkin topping. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Ingredients for pumpkin layer:</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1 16 oz can of pumpkin puree (unsweetened)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2 small packages of vanilla pudding</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1 - 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin spice</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2 1/2 cups milk</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a medium bowl add all the ingredients and mix well. I like to really taste the pumpkin so I tend to put in extra spice. Start with the 1 tsp and add more if you would like a stronger pumpkin taste. The pumpkin pudding will be a little thick. (Each package of pudding calls for 1 3/4 cups of milk. I cut that down because I wanted a thicker pudding.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Spread the pumpkin mixture over top the cream cheese mixture. Stick it in the fridge and let cool before serving. </div>
<div>

My kids love science experiments. They think it is so fun to mix food coloring, milk, vinegar, baking soda, or what ever they can find together to see what kind of reaction they can get. The Elephant's Toothpaste was such a fun reaction to watch. I'm sure this is an experiment we will try over and over again. I found the idea on <a href="http://www.sciencebob.com/experiments/toothpaste.php">Science Bob's</a>.<br />

<h3>
Elephant's Toothpaste</h3>
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
<div>
1/2 cup 20 volume hydrogen peroxide liquid (6% solution, you can get this from a beauty supply store) I only had 3% solution and it worked fine.</div>
<div>
1 Tablespoon of dry yeast (or one packet)</div>
<div>
3 Tablespoons of warm water</div>
<div>
Liquid dish washing soap</div>
<div>
Food coloring</div>
<div>
16 oz pop bottle</div>
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
<div>
Set your pop bottle on a large cookie sheet or inside a baking dish, as this will foam all over the place.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hydrogen peroxide can irritate eyes and skin, so put on a pair of safety goggles. Poor the hydrogen peroxide into the bottle.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Add 8 drops of your favorite food coloring into the bottle</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap into the bottle and swish the bottle around it mix it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a separate cup, combine luke warm water and yeast and mix until the yeast dissolves. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pour the yeast mixture into the pop bottle (a funnel will help with that process) and watch it begin to foam.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Be sure to visit Science Bob's for an explanation on how this works.</div>

There are so many things I love about fall: changing leaves, <a href="http://amyskitchen4.blogspot.com/2011/10/apple-crisp.html">Apple Crisp</a>, anything pumpkin, <a href="http://amyskitchen4.blogspot.com/2011/11/creamy-white-chilli.html">chili</a>, and roasted pumpkin seeds. <br />
<br />
My kids always get so excited to carve pumpkins and I hate to see all those yummy, nutrition packed treats go to waste. These little seeds are packed with amino acids, magnesium, protein, zinc, iron, and fiber, so eat up and enjoy those health benefits.<br />

<h3>
Perfectly Roasted Pumpkin Seeds</h3>
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
<div>
Pumpkin seeds</div>
<div>
Water</div>
<div>
Sea Salt</div>
<div>
Olive Oil</div>
<div>
Seasonings of your choice, Seasoning salt, garlic, Chili Powder, Salt, Pepper....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
<div>
Set oven to 350 degrees</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After you have removed your seeds from the pumpkin, rinse under warm water to remove any bits of the pumpkin that are remaining. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Place seeds in a medium sized pot and add water. You will need about 2 cups of water per 1/2 cup of seeds. Add 2 teaspoons of salt for every 2 cups of water. Be sure and use a good sea salt such as Celtic Sea Salt. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 10 minutes. Set the timer when the water starts to boil. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Remove from heat and drain. Place seeds on paper towels and pat dry. It's okay if they aren't completely dry. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Spread seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and coat lightly with 1 tbs of Olive Oil. Sprinkle with your favorite seasoning. The amount of oil and seasoning will depend on how many seeds you have. Just make sure they are lightly covered. </div>
<div>
Alternative method of putting oil on seeds: place seeds, oil and seasoning in a gallon size ziplock bag and and shake until seeds are covered.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bake for around 20 minutes in 350 degree oven. They will brown fast so make sure to check often and take seeds out when they reach your desired brownness. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy!</div>

If you are like me, you are always trying to find a way to get through that cold and alleviate a stuffy nose and cough. I posted the following recipe at <a href="http://naturalandhealingherbs.blogspot.com/2013/02/tonic-for-colds.html">All Things Natural</a>. I'll admit that it isn't the tastiest of recipes, but it helps clear out your sinus' and it is loaded with good for you ingredients. As a side benefit, it may be good for weight loss, I didn't want to eat anything after taking this cold tonic.<br />

Touch Point Math</h3>
Do you have little ones that are struggling to learn addition facts, or that are sensory learners? Then try teaching them Touch Point Math.<br />
<br />
The way touch points work, is you count each dot on the number, so when adding count the dots. Numbers 6-9 will have double dots, so be sure and count them twice. For best results print cards out, cut out numbers 1-9 and laminate them. Included is blank page with space to put the numbers so that kids can practice writing numbers as well. Laminate the page with the blank boxes and give your kids a dry erase marker.<br />

Last year my husband and I made a major life changing choice for our family. We pulled our 3 school age children out of public school. This was such a hard and scary decision for our family.<br />
<br />
Many things lead to this decision. I had one child that absolutely hated to go to school. For two years in a row, I literally drug him to school. Day after day I left him crying in the classroom. Walking out of the building and leaving him there was one of the hardest things I had to do day after day. Many days I walked out of that building with tears in my eyes. This child of mine is a very bright and curious child, he is also a type 2 child. Any of you that are familiar with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Whisperer-Ultimate-Handbook-Successful-Cooperative/dp/0984402136/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1413082502&sr=1-1&keywords=child+whisperer+tuttle">The Child Whisperer</a> know that type 2 children do not like to be rushed and they are very detail oriented. He had a second-grade teacher that gave him the impression that he was stupid because he took his time doing his 100 problem math sheet. This teacher continually kept him in from recess because he didn't finish the sheet. Slowly he went from loving to learn, to hating it. As a result of the first time I handed this child of mine a math worksheet, he hid in a corner and cried that he was the dumbest in the class. It has been a hard road, but we are finally getting past those feelings of being stupid.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
At this same time, my daughter was also struggling with 4th grade Common Core Math. We spent hours at the kitchen table trying to make sense of this fuzzy math, with her crying the whole time. The contention level in my home was so high. Hubs would come home from work and be irritated that homework was taking so long and that it was so frustrating for our daughter. We could teach her traditional math but she would get the problem marked wrong if she didn't do all the additional steps (and unnecessary) Common Core math requires. By the end of the school year, I knew that something needed to change. I had a child that thought he was stupid and another that was not accomplishing a solid grasp of multiplication and division.<br />
<br />
I spent the summer researching, praying and looking for other options. I signed my 3 children up for a local charter school that teaches Saxon Math and still believes in reading Classic Literature to children. The day before school was to start, I felt all wrong about sending them to this charter school. It's a great school, but I knew that it wasn't right for my children. I called the school and told them my children would not be attending that school year. That left me with only one other option - homeschool. I was a little nervous to tell my husband as I wasn't sure what his reaction would be. Thank goodness he was willing to let me give it a try. He sat down with our kids and told them what he expected to see from them. I know God answers prayers and softened my husband's heart to allow me to homeschool our little ones.<br />
<br />
We are now into our second year of home education. We have had tears, laughs, interesting field trips, have learned how to make rubberized eggs, and have read a lot of good classic literature. It isn't always easy, but I'm learning who my children are and what their desires are. I have an aspiring Pharaoh, veterinarian, and scientist that can take all the time they need to research their various interests. Hopefully my child won't be too disappointed when he can't become a Pharaoh, but for now, dressing up and make believe are a big entertainment.<br />
<br />
I'm grateful I followed the prompting, to home educate, that I received from my Heavenly Father and took this great leap of faith. For now, this is the right path for my family and it works for us.<br />
<br />
So, I have been working on developing copy work and other things that are helpful to our learning that I will be sharing here along with my recipes. I thought it fitting to share here as my kitchen table isn't just for dinner any more. My kitchen has become a place of nurturing spiritually, intellectually, and physically. I hope you enjoy our adventures along with us.<br />

<br />
My Grandma gave me this recipe and gave me rave reviews on it. I have to admit, I was a little nervous to try it because of all the different spices in it. I'm glad I went ahead and tried this yummy Kale. It is a little addicting and is packed with beneficial nutrients. <br />
<br />
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
1/3 Cup of Cashews*<br />
2 tbs. Lemon Juice<br />
3 tbs. Water<br />
1/4 cup Olive Oil<br />
1/2 tsp Real Salt*<br />
1 small chunk of onion (2-3 tbs)<br />
1/2 tsp Chili Powder<br />
1/4 tsp <a href="http://naturalandhealingherbs.blogspot.com/2012/10/cayenne-pepper.html">Cayenne Pepper</a><br />
1/4 tsp. <a href="http://naturalandhealingherbs.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-benefits-of-turmeric.html">Tumeric</a><br />
1 Clove of Garlic<br />
Ground pepper to taste<br />
1 container of Kale (5 oz.)<br />
<br />
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor, except kale. Blend until smooth. In a medium bowl, toss kale with the dressing. (The original recipe calls for spreading kale on cookie sheet and then brushing on the sauce with a basting brush. This sounded like to much work to me. So do what ever you prefer.)<br />
<br />
Line a commercial size cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread kale evenly on the sheet. Place kale in a 200 degree oven and bake until crisp. This will take up to 1 hour. After 30 minutes, check kale. <br />
<br />
Alternate method to dry the kale: Place kale on non stick sheet and place on dehydrator racks. Place in dehydrator and set drying temp at 105. Dry for 6-12 hours, check and turn kale over. Dry until desired crispness. <br />
<br />
(I used Sunflower seeds instead of Cashews because that is what I had on hand. Be sure and use a good quality salt such as Celtic Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink Salt or Real Salt. The health benefits of a good salt are amazing.) <br />

My grandma's potato salad is a must at all the family get togethers and greatly missed if it is not there. However, I do not have that recipe, so I am posting the next best thing - my husband's grandmothers recipe. This potato salad is a favorite at get togethers as well and requested often.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
6 c. new red potatoes diced into 1/2 inch cubes<br />
3-6 hard boiled eggs, cubed<br />
1/4 c. onion<br />
1/4 c. parsley <br />
<br />
<br />
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
Boil the potatoes until they are soft, be careful not to over cook. Nothing is worse than mushy potatoes in potato salad. Drain potatoes in a colander, run potatoes under cold water to cool. While potatoes are cooling and draining, mix together the dressing. When potatoes have fully cooled add onion, parsley and eggs. Fold together carefully as not to mash the potatoes. <br />
<br />
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
Dressing:<br />
2 eggs slightly beaten<br />
1/2 cup sugar<br />
1 Tablespoon dry mustard<br />
1/4 cup vinegar<br />
3/4 cup water<br />
1 1/2 tsp salt<br />
1/2 tsp pepper<br />
1 Tablespoon corn starch (mix with sugar and mustard)<br />
<br />
<h3>
Instructions</h3>
In a medium pot, mix all ingredients together and cook until thick. Cool and add 1 cup of Mayonnaise.<br />
<br />
Pour over cooled potatoes and mix gently. Refrigerate until ready to serve. <br />

I am constantly trying to find recipes that are low carb, have protein and taste good. I feel so much better when I eliminate sugars and carbs out of my eating habits. One of my favorites at my local Chinese restaurant is their egg drop soup, so I decided to try my hand at making it on my own. Adding cabbage was my own creation, but feel free to leave that out if cooked cabbage just isn't your thing. A lot of egg drop soups contain corn, I left the corn out because it is a starch and felt like I didn't need the carbs from it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I got this recipe from the Atkins Diet. It is low carb, low calorie and low fat and it tastes yummy.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Ingredients</h3>
29 Ounce can of chicken broth<br />
1 Teaspoon of grated fresh ginger<br />
2 large eggs, beaten<br />
2 green onions, chopped<br />
1/2 cup chopped cabbage (optional)<br />
1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil<br />
Soy Sauce <br />
<br />
<h3>
Instructions:</h3>
In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring broth and ginger to a boil, add in the cabbage. When cabbage is tender, turn down the heat to simmer and slowly pour in egg to form yellow threads.<br />
<br />
Turn heat off and add green onions, sesame oil and soy sauce to taste. Serve immediately. Makes 4 servings.<br />

My 2 youngest love granola on top of their yogurt. In an effort to cut down on their sugar intake, I made this recipe. It isn't as sweet as my other granola recipe, but still very good.<br />
<br />
4 cups rolled oats<br />
1 tsp cinnamon<br />
1/2 tsp salt<br />
1 cup dried fruit (craisins, apples, raisins, apricots....)<br />
1/4 cup coconut flakes<br />
1 cup nuts (sunflower seeds, almonds, pecans, walnuts....)<br />
2 tbs flax seed<br />
5 tablespoons melted coconut oil, olive oil or butter (do not sub margarine for butter)<br />
1 tsp real vanilla<br />
1/3 – 1/2 cup honey<br />
2 egg whites, lightly beaten<br />
<br />
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. <br />
In a medium sized bowl mix together oats, cinnamon, salt, fruit, nuts, coconut, and flax seeds. <br />
In a separate bowl mix together coconut oil, vanilla, honey and egg white. You will have to warm up the coconut oil and honey a little in order to mix together. <br />
<br />
Pour the wet ingredients over the dry, mix well making sure all the dry ingredients are coated. <br />
<br />
Grease to cookie sheets or line with parchment paper. Divide the granola evenly between the sheets. Press the granola onto the sheets. <br />
<br />
Bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes. Do not stir while baking. Allow to cool for 15 minutes. Store in an airtight container. <br />
<br />
This is so yummy on top of yogurt.<br />

After her comments a lunch was served using long term food storage. It was wonderful. The following is one of Liesa's recipes that was served.<br />
<br />
1 orange or red pepper, diced<br />
1 green pepper, diced<br />
1 small red onion, diced<br />
1 bunch fresh cilantro, leaves chopped<br />
1 small jalapeno pepper, cored and diced <br />
Juice of 1 lime<br />
3 c. cooked wheat berries<br />
1 can corn, drained (16 oz.)<br />
1 can black beans, drained (15 oz.)<br />
2 tsp. chili powder<br />
2 tsp. ground cumin<br />
1/4 c. cider vinegar<br />
1 T. sugar<br />
1/2 c. vegetable oil<br />
1 tsp. salt<br />
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and toss well. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.<br />
Serve with chips.<br />

I found this wonderful recipe on <a href="http://www.crockpot365.blogspot.com/">A year of slow cooking.</a> I looked at a lot of recipes before I chose this one. I picked this one because it called for less sugar than a lot of the others. Even with less sugar, it is still yummy and very addicting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<strong>Ingredients</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">cooking spray</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
1 1/2 cups sugar (I used brown sugar with great results)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
3 tablespoons cinnamon</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
1/8 teaspoon salt</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
1 egg white</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
3 cups whole raw almonds (I actually ended up using 3 1/2 cups)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Use a 4-quart slow cooker. Spray the stoneware well with cooking
spray. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and salt. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In a larger mixing bowl, whisk together the egg white and
vanilla. Pour the almonds into this bowl and stir well to coat. Add your
cinnamon mixture to the top of the nuts and toss with spoons to fully coat. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Put the almonds into the slow cooker and cover. Cook on high for
2 hours, stirring every 20-30 minutes to keep the almonds on the side of
the crock from getting too crispy.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When the nuts are hot and toasty, let them cool fully on a
length of foil or parchment paper. When cooled, store in an air-tight
container.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
