Bread Sticks

These bread sticks are so yummy and very addicting.

1 Tablespoon yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
3 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar

Mix together warm water, sugar, salt and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes or until foamy, (unless using SAF yeast)

(SAF yeast is a fast acting, high potency yeast that can be added directly to your dry ingredients without it having to be activated in water first. SAF Instant Yeast is more than twice as active as regular compressed yeast, allowing you to reduce the amount of yeast called for).

Mix in the flour and knead for 3-5 minutes. Let rest for 10 minutes. You can use the dough cycle on a bread machine.

Coat large cookie sheet with shortening or line with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Put dough in pan and roll from center out. Spread the topping over the dough.

Rise to double. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20-25 mintues. Cool in pan.

Topping:
1/4 cup soft butter
1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt (I used Garlic Supreme from Alison's Pantry).

In a small mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Spread over bread.

Cut in a cross and then cut into 1 inch wide strips starting at the outside edge and 1 inch from the first cut.  Check out the picture below if that sounds to confusing. I have added blue lines showing cut lines.

Cut in a cross and then to ends. I use a pizza cutter.

I got ahead of myself and started
cutting before I put on the topping.
It is a lot easier to spread the topping before you cut.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Eat warm and enjoy.
