Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine, softened but not melted. *
4 eggs
2 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
5 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chocolate chips

Cream together butter, eggs and sugars. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes, until barely brown. For soft cookies, do not over bake. Take cookies out after they have poofed and no longer have a glossy shine on top. Cool on wire rack.
*You can substitute 1/2 cup margarine and 1/2 cup shortening for the butter.
